ReplyDeleteNothing too heavy is on them, but after 7 years, they are starting to tip down. Can you recommend a more heavy duty but still nice looking support?

There is a paucity of specific information on the load bearing capacity of (tempered) glass shelving. Any references or links to specific information or calculator(s) for this would be appreciated (glass type, thickness, span, depth, etc., and associated load capacity). I have a piece of furniture that claims a 200 lb. capacity for the tempered glass top shelf (intended for a large TV), but the shelf is only 5/16" thick and has a T-shaped support under it. The four feet of the TV (which weighs 146 lbs.) are placed as follows: the 2 front feet are over the top (horizontal) of the T in front which extends under the length of the front shelf edge; the two rear feet float about 13" from the foot of the T (the vertical of the T runs from the front of the shelf down the middle of the shelf to the rear edge) and either end of the top of the T. (Once again, the rear edge of the shelf is only supported in the middle (bottom of the vertical of the T shape), the top edge is supported its whole length by the top (horizontal) of the T-shaped support.)
